Water Resource Development
Proposing a location to drill a water supply well.
Seramur and Associates, PC assists homeowners, industry, and municipalities with water resource development planning. We have designed well fields, groundwater models, and performed fracture trace studies and groundwater pumping tests. Seramur and Associates, PC can also protection plans for design well fields to ensure that land use practices do not threaten water quality in the future.
A water supply well has to intersect an open fracture in the bedrock to yield sufficient water. Locating a place to drill a producing well consists of three phases:
Geology and topographic maps are used to evaluate the project area.
A fracture trace analysis is performed using aerial photographs, both black and white as well as infrared to trace lineaments or linear color changes in the soil.
Fieldwork consisting of mapping springs and measuring fractures in the outcrops around the study area.
All of this information is then compiled and compared. Springs are plotted on the aerial photos and locations for drilling water supply wells are selected at points of intersecting bedrock fractures which are more likely to yield producing wells.
